Tomorrow Alex will be discharged from Changes in Frisco. Today on the way there he was much more talkative than usual. He told me about how in therapy they discussed their plans for the future. Alex wants to go to culinary arts school to be a chef, then open a restaurant, and own a house with an island in the kitchen and a garden for his own vegetables.
My heart grew by 2 sizes while we talked about the future and made plans for what we would do next. It also made me sad to think that one day Alex would move on with his life and go on to bigger and better things. I love that we have gone from a choice that Alex was almost unable to come back from to seeing the future and planning ahead for a long fruitful life.
It’s been a 47 day, 3 hospitals, 39 rounds trips, 1,914 miles, 20ish Wendy’s breakfast sandwiches (Alex’s favorite), 30+ ramen noodles (Alex’s other favorite), 125 hours of driving, 4,000 plus phone calls, emails, text messages, countless tears, and 500 hugs journey to get to where we are tomorrow.
We’ve gone from holy shit! To I can’t wait to see where this takes us. After tomorrow we transition to a once a week schedule with a therapist and take baby steps to stay on the right path.
However, this is where our journey ends, you all will always be in my heart. You will always be with us, you helped to change our life and you were there when we (I) needed you most.
Thank you ❤️
That's good
