Life in a box... parenting 101

Parenting is a blessing!

I mean sure there’s times when we question ourselves, huff and puff, roll our eyes, mumble under our breathe, and say “what?” However, those are also the same moments that I love the most about parenting. The moments that also make me smile, make me laugh, and warm my heart.

I've been lucky enough to enjoy an extended period of time at home with my kids this year. We started virtual schooling which has allowed me to fail in ways I didn’t know were possible! Like getting a phone call that my youngest slept through math class, while on Zoom! I mean I give her props because I can think of a dozen meetings I would have rather napped through...

Either way I love being a parent, it’s the greatest job in the entire world. Athough I always wondered how I could manage hundreds of people and countless multimillion dollar events but yet my hardest job is raising my daughters!

So, I made a short list of just a few thing I mutually hate/love about being a dad:

  • making random food at 8:30pm because my daughter hasn’t had it in forever and really wants it, despite the fact that I cooked dinner earlier in the day but “she wasn’t hungry.”

  • going in to give my kids a hug and kiss goodnight “can you get me water?” But we were just in the kitchen...

  • “I have to pee..” why didn’t you go before we left... “because I didn’t need to then” but we just left the house...

  • did you brush your teeth? “Yes” (dry toothbrush and stinky breathe) “it was earlier” but you just woke up... “well, no but do I have to??”

  • take a shower... “can I take one tomorrow?” No... “but please, I’ll go to bed right now” (1 hour later....) “can I watch TV with you?” Me: “Why aren’t you in bed?”

  • stealing my blanket on the couch

  • stealing my water

  • stealing my food

  • taking too much food and not eating it, so I eat it.

  • ordering something at a restaurant just to send it back... every time

  • never liking what i cook for dinner

  • having to order off the adult menu, then getting full after 2 bites

  • talking to me for an hour late at night while I’m trying to sleep!

  • waking up for school, but then choosing to hide somewhere and sleep.

  • Not talking to me the entire day but then deciding that bedtime is the bedtime to talk to me for an hour.

  • watching TikTok and YouTube videos.

  • And .... “Please, I won’t ask you for anything else ever again” (all lies)

No matter what happens never forget that life is short. Through all these things I have learned lessons about my daily journey as a father. I’ve learned to love deeper, laugh longer and more often, listen, don’t take life too serious, give more hugs, never stay mad, never over react, and most of all always say “I love you“ everyday, and as often as possible.

Because you never know when it could be your last chance to remind them!
