I got my first tattoo when I was 17 on my back for my birthday and I’ve continued that tradition just about every year since. I was still in high school and my parents were so pissed. Haha

Everyone with a tattoo knows it’s the story behind it that’s typically more important than the ink itself. You’ll never convince me a tattoo is a bad idea as long as it has meaning and No matter how much you explain it or the story behind it, it will forever be yours and no one will ever really understand how significant that piece of art is to you.

They are much more common and accepted now than they used to be, and I would compare mine to the most valuable things I own. Some people ask which one is your favorite but they don’t get that they are all so very different.

My recent one from today is a compass with my kids initials and a heart in the middle. It symbolizes that my girls will forever guide my heart towards them above all things.

Last year was my new life/beginning stroke tattoo, one on my shoulder is Riley’s name with a backward E that she wrote when she was about 5. I have a girl praying on my arm for all my girls, that was drawn by a friend in Afghanistan. Bellas heart represents that she’s my princess, but a fiercy independent with tons of sass. Etc.

I’ll be buried with these stories, they are the things I take with me to my grave like the Egyptians did. I tend to believe those of us willing to be vulnerable enough to live our stories on a canvas for the world too see makes us stronger inside. Because at any moment someone could ask you, and you then wear your heart on your sleeve figuratively and sometimes literally. I’m proud of my stories no matter how hard or difficult they were, or joyous and loving as can and will be.

So heres to 37 more years of tattoos and stories! (Sorry mom) Cheers!!
