Did you know raising girls is not like raising boys...? yeah yeah I know that’s not rocket science, but, as a man in today’s world trying to raise 3 girls with no prior experience it’s harder than I would have ever thought. Girls are sensitive and you have to like be sensitive... lame!

Hahaha

You see when I was growing up my mama was the one who bought my clothes. I was really picky and I liked to wear expensive clothing like: Lucky Brand, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger (I might have worn JNCO’s... maybe). I NEVER set foot in Walmart... not even the parking lot.

Shockingly though, I ended up more like my Daddy. My Daddy taking me shopping would consist of taking me to Walmart (back when Walmart clothing was not in style.) I mean, it’s still not in style now, but it was way worse back then. He would tell me to go in and get some pants and there’s no way that was going to happen.

Realistically you would think that I would’ve learned my lesson by now with my own children....nope!!!

So, that leads me to this weekend when my daughter asked me when I was going to take her school shopping and get her new backpack.

So what do I do?

Well like a good daddy I took her to Walmart. (SMH) She’s 14, now, while my 8 year old loved it since she got her a panda backpack that she thinks is the greatest thing ever. My 14-year-old wasn’t having it and looked at me like I was a crazy. Naturally we had a bit of blowup because she wanted a “Pink” backpack from Victoria’s Secret. I mean why wouldn’t I pay down for a backpack that says pink, technically all I need is a bag and sharpie but I digress.

Ultimately, I bought the bag from Pink and then I gave her some money to go shopping at the mall. (sucker I know) It’s true what they say though ... the apple don’t fall far from the tree.

Now, the lesson learned in all this is the humility as a man and a father that I had to have after such a terrible interaction.

Luckily, after some wise counsel, I went back to my daughter and I apologized and explained that I would prefer in the future that she would just communicate her wants and needs ahead of time instead of waiting until we get to Walmart to look at me like I’m crazy.

But then again, she is a woman... no offense Ladies... but you know what I’m saying! Uh huh

Now, what’s funny though is when she gets older and she comes to me and is whining about her kids being like this just like I do to my mama. I’m just gonna shake my head and say the same thing mama says.

And I quote:

“Well you remember back in the day when you were just like that?... blah blah blah”

What goes around comes around!
